about

The cavity

The Cavity is a multi-purpose pop-up event space presented by local house music collective WEEKDAY UNDERGROUND in collaboration with the ATLANTIC CITY ARTS FOUNDATION for ARTeriors 2023 at the James. The 1500 sq. ft room, once home to a factory line at the historic James' Taffy shop, displays art from a off the Atlantic City boardwalk

ARTeriors

Now in its 10th year, ARTeriors is an initiative established by the Atlantic City Arts Foundation, highlighting the transformation and transition of culture in the city with an annual exhibition of living art. Local artists collaborate to transform spaces in transition into an immersive pop-up art installation inspired by the artists’ interaction with each other and the space.
ARTeriors highlights Atlantic City’s potential for innovation and evolution and aims to shift attendees’ perceptions of the city.
Established and emerging artists are given a unique opportunity to collaborate, work with new mediums, and create large-scale site-specific installations.

Design and Artwork

Our design team

Lifetime AC native Dylan Caccamesi (He/Him) (Sunday Double) is the founder of Weekday Underground and Director of The Cavity. With a vibrant background as a musician, organizer, and multi-medium visual artist, Dylan is the creative visionary behind this space as well as one of the many artists to grace it's walls. You can find his artwork in The Cavity along many of the venue walls including his mural "Just Another Day in Atlantic City" and ARTeriors Mini display, "What is the Upside?".

Kate O'Malley (She/Her) is the Executive Director of the Atlantic City Arts Foundation and co-director of The Cavity. Kate's role as a project manager for the construction of the venue was integral in its completion and success, alongside her main role as the heart of 2023 ARTeriors at the James.

Michael (He/Him) & Abigail (She/Her) owners and founders of Lodestone Games, are the Stage, Construction, and Logistics Directors for The Cavity. With glowing backgrounds in large-scale stage, set, and props design, Abigail and Micheal were vital to the layout and construction of our 250 sq. foot L-stage, compete with stage pillars and two backstage wings. The pair were integral in the early stages of this project and continue to be involved with the venue as trusted consultants.

Saverio Turrano (He/Him) is an illustrator and graphic designer from Galloway, NJ, specializing in sketches, portraits, and brand identity. As the VIsual Marketing and Brand Director Saverio brought The Cavity to life through the creation of our beautiful logo and promotional flyers.

Our Artists and Contributors

Alexandria Montalvo (She/Her), creative mind behind Mays Landing girliepop print shop Actius Luna Art, brought her nature-pop aethetic to The Cavity as one of our head muralists. You can see her work across the entire edifice of The Cavity as well as select hidden pieces among the inside walls and the dance floor - to be unvieled 11/29.

Head muralist Alissa Joan Licolli (She/Her) is a tattoo artist at the Inkuisition in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, who specializes in black and grey illustrative, botanical, lettering, and fine line work. Her signature whimsical pin-up style makes an appearance on The Cavity's stage pillars and upstage wall, dawning neon twin tooth fairies urging you to "sink your teeth in".

Honeydew Artworks, trauma-core jewelry, ceramic, figurine, and oddity shop founded and operated by Estelle Manor's Sarah Kelly (She/Her), head muralist of The Cavity and the creative terror behind a number of displays within it. Her flaming rainbow disco ball mural can be seen on the wall directly stage right, as well an ARTeriors Mini's display within the venue.

Ember Brady (They/She) is a multi-medium visual artist from Egg Harbor Township who specializes in collage art, digital design, and experimental photography. Their eclectic-vintage vibe can be felt with their upcoming ARTeriors Mini installation.

Local craft mom Wendy Stewart (She/Her) is a lifetime Michael's premier shopper whose work can only be described as DIY magic. Her pieces, repurposed decorative 45" records, can be seen hanging over The Cavity's dance floor.

The Babyboys (They/She), comprised of local helper bfs Andrew Sawyer, Tony Mott, Aaron Minchin, and Kevin Riley, were the hands that got the jonb done when pulling together the strings of all the artwork within The Cavity. Select pieces, such as Minchin's 'Salivating Selfie Booth' and select hidden mural additions by Sawyer can be seen in the lounge of the installation.
